From The Campaign Trail: WBT Hometown Tour, Belmont!
Today we got to be part of the WBT Hometown Town Tour in Belmont. The station says "The first stop on WBT's Hometown Tour of 2018 takes us to the charming town of Belmont on Friday, April 27. We're broadcasting live from Belmont 5 a.m. until 7 p.m. with all your favorite shows including WBT's Morning News with Bo Thompson, The Pat McCrory Show with Bo Thompson, The Vince Coakley."
I wanted to take a moment to say what a wonderful town Belmont is and tell you a little bit about it. Once known as Garibaldi Station, the name change for Belmont is disputed. Some say it was named for a prominent New York banker - August Belmont. Others contend the Pope ordered the abbot of the monastery to change the name since he would not tolerate an abbey in a place that bore the Garibaldi name. The abbot could see Crowder's mountain from the property and named the town Belmont - "beautiful mountain".. And it indeed is a beautiful mountain town.
In each town I have visited, I have been amazed by the warmth of the people and their deep commitment to their community. I share that feeling and stand with Belmont. I would be proud to be your congresswoman and hope that you vote early and that you encourage your friends to vote. Thank you for your support.
