From The Campaign Trail: Lake Lure

Lake Lure covers approximately 720 acres and has a shoreline of approximately 27 miles. The lake was created by the damming of the Broad river in 1927 by the Blue Ridge Power Company.  The town continues to sell electricity to Duke Energy, although profits from the dam now come second to maintaining a fixed water level year-round. Recreation and tourism have become crucial to the town's economy. Lake Lure and Chimney Rock are beautiful, and the people are friendly all year round. I enjoyed my time there today. As your congresswoman I would protect the beauty of the area and our precious resources.
