By FRAN FARRER

HICKORY, NC - The Hickory Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), announced Monday that they will honor “Phenomenal Women” of Hickory, North Carolina, and will make their official presentation to the public at the NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.

The honorees were selected with the assistance of local churches based on specific criteria as directed by their selecting churches and community sources, and most importantly in keeping with the mission of the NAACP to ensure equality of rights and eliminate discrimination for all.

The “Phenomenal Women” are: Mrs. Felicia Culbreath-Setzer, Mrs. Geraldine Davis, Ms. Angela Heard, Mrs. Nancy Jones, Mrs. Rachel Phillips, Mrs. Angie Pope, Mrs. Vicky Villanueva, Rev. Susan Walker, Mrs. Yvonne Williams and Mrs. Elaine Zerden.

According to the Hickory Branch committee, the honorees are alike and different in various ways; some are teachers, some are preachers, caregivers, wives, mothers, and entrepreneurs. While some are native to and have spent much of their lives in the Hickory area, others have immigrated from or traveled to and from other cities, states, and countries. One is known for her homemade pound cakes, another for her ethnic cooking.

Phenomenally educated, they hold professional certification, associate, bachelors and, or master’s degrees in their chosen fields, two hold or have held government or government related positions at state or federal levels, faith seems to be a component of all their lives, with that said, they are women of many talents, and are Phenomenal!
