I believe healthcare is a human right. Everyone should have the security that comes with good healthcare, and no one should go broke because they get sick. Republican efforts to dismantle the ACA have driven up the cost of premiums, and resulted in many middle and low-income residents of District 10 losing their coverage. I support universal healthcare. At a minimum, I am committed to fixing the ACA, bringing premiums down, expanding Medicaid for those who have been locked out of the system, protecting coverage for people with pre-existing conditions, and lowering the cost of prescription drugs.
Americans should be able to have private insurance if they choose. One way to create more competition among companies is to allow companies in the state healthcare exchanges to compete across state lines. I also believe that young people should be able to remain on their parents’ health insurance.
Hardworking Americans should never go broke trying to keep their families healthy. In the summer of 2017, the entire nation spoke up to tell Washington twice that we wanted to keep the ACA — not repeal it, but Washington turned a deaf ear, and then undermined the ACA in the Tax Reform Bill of 2017, which removed the individual mandate. Furthermore, this current Washington administration directed the Department of Justice not to defend the ACA any longer in court, hoping that the entire ACA will be held unconstitutional by the new majority Republican Supreme Court. Yet, the Republicans still do not have a healthcare plan of their own.
I will fight for universal healthcare for all.
