Our Republic is built on the tradition of thoughtful policies and meaningful debate. This tradition requires legislators to stand up for their beliefs. Sadly, Patrick McHenry dishonors this tradition.
Mr. McHenry rubber stamps Trump’s agenda 98.6 percent of the time. Thoughtful consideration doesn’t occur. Meaningful debate doesn’t happen. In fact, only four other representatives in Congress have a higher rate of acquiescence, and three of those have either quit or chosen not to run for re-election. That’s right: of 435 representatives in the House Mr. McHenry is number five on the list of Trump sycophants. We deserve better.
Who agrees with anyone 98.6 percent of the time? Do you agree with your spouse 98.6 percent of the time? How about your boss? Didn’t think so. An adult with even an occasional “independent thought” can’t agree with anyone 98.6 percent of the time. Yet Mr. McHenry somehow sees the wisdom of Trump’s nonsense and unthinkingly aligns 98.6 percent of the time. Was it a McDonald’s takeout order where Mr. McHenry finally disagreed with Trump? Filet of fish? No, I demand a Big Mac. Way to take a stand Patrick. Our freethinking representative might disagree with Trump on fast food. District 10 is in good hands if we need a McDonald’s fix. We deserve better.
The Republican primary is next Tuesday. There is a better choice for Republican and unaffiliated voters. Gina Collias will engage other legislators to find solutions. Better solutions require an open mind. Better solutions require a willingness to think independently. Better solutions require unselfishness. Better solutions require fearless leadership. Better solutions require District 10 to have a representative who is a respected member of Congress. Gina
Collias is a Republican who knows gridlock can only be loosened if those cemented in their own dogma are willing to budge. This is true for Republicans and Democrats. A tiny budge can give enough room to perhaps find solutions. There is no guarantee for success. But someone has to start in order to get better. Gina Collias will probably disagree with Trump on occasion, even if she is a Republican. This fact will freak out some Republicans. So be it. This will not prevent her from working tirelessly for the citizens of District 10. Mr. McHenry’s idea of action is to follow Trump’s orders to stonewall and obstruct. That’s as good as District 10 can expect from our current Representative. We demand better.
Gina Collias will speak truth to power. Gina Collias will work hard to find solutions that are true to her Republican roots. Accountability. Family. Respect for the law. Fiscal responsibility. Gina Collias’ strength is a willingness to start rebuilding a more functional Congress. Her opponent gives nothing but lip service to these ideals.
Gina Collias is not Patrick McHenry. She will be better. She will be an authentic Republican. District 10 can be better. Registered Republicans and registered Unaffiliated voters can vote in this primary. If you demand a better, a true Republican to represent District 10 she is the only candidate to consider. Please vote for Gina Collias on May 8.
